With Christmas just around the corner it’s time to announce a jazz hamper of new releases coming next week. Not one but TWO album launches, wrapped in a bow and decorated with tinsel and dodgy knock-off flashing LED lights.
Drawing Hands and Treppenwitz are having a dual album launch gig next week at Heart in Headingly. Tickets are available in advance at the below link or on the door. Come down and shake off the Christmas commerce……..but obviously we encourage you to buy an album for Pay What You Feel while you’re there.
HEART – Headingly
Tuesday 6th December
Doors 19:30 – Music 20:00 to 22:30 – £3/5
Drawing Hands are a Leeds-based quartet led by composer and double-bassist Sam Jackson. They primarily perform original music inspired by classical counterpoint, folk and 21st century jazz. This marks the release of their second album on New Jazz Records, ‘March’ – a suite of twelve newly composed and closely entwined pieces.
Treppenwitz is a project dedicated to improvisation and the exploration of sounds within open structures. It was formed in January 2014 after (though not because) a Philadelphian drummer, Matthew McGraw, left the city of Leeds. The music they make can be seen as an indirect response to this. ‘Short and Long Ditties’ is the first of a two part release recorded at Leeds Fold last year.
and there’s more……
If you simply can’t wait until next week you can catch Drawinghands supporting the awesome Stan Sulzman and Nikki Iles at Seven Arts on 1st December, where you’ll be able to buy advance copies of the album.
